TMN Update 0023 - The Age of Personalization: How technology enables more custom experiences
Truffle Media Update 0023 Show Notes: Naomi Grewal, Pinterest, presenting "The Age of Personalization: How technology enables more custom experiences", from the 2018 Dawn or Doom conference at Purdue University, November 5 & 6, 2018, West Lafayette, IN, USA.
In the digital age, attention has become a commodity. With increasing limitations on time and resources, consumers now have higher expectations when interacting with media content. They demand personalization – superior content, relevant and tailored specifically for them. Among digital platforms today, personalization, understanding users’ intent, is becoming table stakes, both to ensure that the right content is offered to the right user, and to ensure that advertisers reach the right customers in the right moment. This presentation will describe recent research on the topic of personalization and its impact on consumer engagement and how Pinterest is positioned to offer the most relevant content to consumers.Subscribe to the Truffle Media Update podcast series on iTunes: https://agtoday.us/tmn-update-podcast

TMN Update 0022 - Work’s Provocative Future: How to Outwit Those Job-Killing Robots
Truffle Media Update 0022 Show Notes: George Anders presents "Work’s Provocative Future: How to Outwit Those Job-Killing Robots", from the 2018 Dawn or Doom conference at Purdue University, November 5 & 6, 2018, West Lafayette, IN, USA.
What if the rise of machine learning and artificial intelligence ended up creating more jobs? That optimistic scenario might have seemed impossible a few years ago. But as this talk will note, a growing body of evidence suggests that new technology will serve mainly to assist existing workers, rather than displace them. (Just ask NFL referees, whose ranks have expanded, instead of shrinking, as the role of instant replay increases.) The key insight: as technology automates our chores, job descriptions in the vast service sector become more intricate, unique and labor-intensive. Most notably, the need for curiosity, creativity and empathy keeps rising. Those three skills are pillars of a full-strength liberal-arts education. They define areas where humans’ unique edge should prove remarkably durable.Subscribe to the Truffle Media Update podcast series on iTunes: https://agtoday.us/tmn-update-podcast
